Belarus is said to be a backwards hermetic dictatorship full of people who hate the west and live in a third world standard, I was curious if its perception was true so I decided to get a visa and go. I actually wanted to visit the country for years but did not have an opportunity until last May when I was invited to join the Victory day festivities in Brest. I was surprised at what a decent standard of life people had and how free their access to information seemed to be. Truth be told, the only trouble we had with the trip was getting a visa - aside from that things went extremely well.
