Serial opowiada samodzielną, 10-odcinkową historię o dzieciaku z ulicy, który próbuje przetrwać w Night City mieście przyszłości, w którym panuje obsesja na punkcie technologii i modyfikacji ciała. Mając wszystko do stracenia, pozostaje przy życiu, stając się edgerunnerem najemnikiem-przestępcą znanym również jako cyberpunk.

CD PROJEKT RED, firma stojąca za grą wideo Cyberpunk 2077, produkuje serial z Rafałem Jakim (Wiedźmin 3: Dziki Gon, Cyberpunk 2077, Wiedźmin: Ronin) jako showrunnerem i producentem wykonawczym, a Satoru Homma, Bartosz Sztybor i Saya Elder pełnią funkcję producentów. Zespół CD PROJEKT RED pracuje nad tą nową serią od 2018 roku. Uznana japońska firma animacyjna, Studio Trigger, będzie pełniła funkcję studia animacji w serialu i ożywi świat Cyberpunka dzięki swojemu charakterystycznemu, żywemu stylowi.
