In 1948, Yugoslavias leader Josip Broz Tito did the unthinkable: he openly defied Stalin and broke with Moscow. What started as a clash of pride and power turned into a geopolitical shockwave that reshaped the Cold War.

Tito had liberated Yugoslavia largely on his own, refused to be Stalins puppet, and pushed for his own vision of socialism. Stalin expelled him from the Cominform, but Tito stood firm. The West quickly realized this was their chance: aid began to flow, and Yugoslavia became the first crack in the Iron Curtain.
