Dodał: World War Two
Was the French Resistance during World War II really just a few isolated groups fighting the Nazis?
In the early years after Frances defeat in 1940, the Resistance was deeply fragmented. Communist groups, Gaullists, former soldiers, and local networks often operated independently and sometimes even distrusted each other more than the Germans.
That began to change in 1942 thanks largely to Jean Moulin, sent by Charles de Gaulle to unify the competing factions.
In 1943, Moulin helped create the Conseil National de la Résistance (CNR), bringing together major resistance movements, trade unions, and political parties under one structure. The Resistance was no longer just scattered sabotage cells - it was becoming a coordinated underground political and military force.
Moulin himself was later captured by the Gestapo and tortured to death, becoming one of the Resistances most enduring symbols.
By 1944, the Resistance had evolved into the French Forces of the Interior, helping coordinate sabotage for D-Day and supporting the liberation of France.
But unity was never complete. Even during and after liberation, rival factions continued to clash politically and strategically.
So the French Resistance began as scattered groups, but it grew into something far larger, more organized, and far more influential than the myth often suggests.
