A lot of you ask how I keep these historical threads organized. I do all my outlining on the Supernote. It keeps the distraction-free vibe of a notebook, but I can actually index my handwriting and link ideas together. Check it out here: https://supernote.com/

In early 2024, images of a full-size house drifting through San Francisco Bay stunned the world. A white picket fence, two stories tall, floating calmly on open water. It looked impossible but it was only the latest chapter in a long and bizarre tradition unique to San Francisco.

This episode explores how the citys Victorian homes became movable assets, shaped by the Gold Rush, the 1906 earthquake, strict fire laws, and an obsession with preservation. From buildings floated across the bay on tides, to mansions rolled through city streets, to a modern floating home nearly lost at sea, this is the untold story of how San Francisco learned to move its past instead of destroying it.
