In a mountainous city in southwest China, 19-year-old Gangpao runs a mahjong hall he inherited from his mother. A group of lost teenagers from the neighborhood gather there, looking up to Gangpao as an older brother relying on each other for warmth. But beneath the calm surface, an undercurrent stirs. The mahjong hall is unstable, the teenagers are sinking deeper into crime, and Gangpao is trapped between loyalty and survival. When he is imprisoned for his brotherhood, his secret is finally discovered.

A story about loyalty, the weight of brotherhood, and the price the streets demand.

Directors Statement: My university is in Zhejiang, Chinas economic powerhouse. Coming from Guizhou to Zhejiang, I found that the people in these two places are so different. The children who grow up here seem to be gentler and more innocent than my friends before me. The attitude of their parents towards education is also very different from that of the friends I have come into contact with. I couldnt help but wonder if my friends had grown up in such an environment, would they have lived a completely different life? With this in mind, I look back at my hometown, my upbringing, and the education I received, and realize that the gap between the rich and the poor has had a far greater impact than I ever imagined. Then I thought back to my friends who had struggled and were lost, and I was deeply touched by the thought of their love and pursuit and the justice in their hearts. So I wrote Paoges story.
