Dodał: IT'S HISTORY
For nearly two decades, a 110-foot hole sat at the most coveted address on Chicagos lakefront the only remnant of what would have been the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere. The Chicago Spire was a 2,000-foot twisting tower designed by world-renowned architect Santiago Calatrava, funded with $500 million, and stopped cold by the 2008 financial crisis. But the strange truth is that this particular patch of ground had been the center of Chicagos ambitions since before the city even existed.

From the fur-trading post that sparked the citys founding, to the largest warehouse on Earth, to the apartment tower that inspired the Burj Khalifa the story of Chicagos lakefront hole is really the biography of the city itself. In this episode, we trace every generation that touched that ground, and ask why a city famous for reinventing itself ended up with its most prized real estate sitting empty for nearly 20 years.
