Lucie, 27, returns to her hometown, worried about her mother, Léonie. What begins as a simple visit turns into a confrontation filled with love, resentment, and guilt. As old wounds resurface, both women face the silence and distance that have shaped their bond.
An intimate drama about the struggle to communicate and the power of forgiveness.
Award-Winning Short Film | Originally in French
English subtitles available
Director: Mary Eyraud
Cast: Emeline Asmodé (Lucie), Francesca Giromella (Léonie)
Country: France
Runtime: 13 Min
Directors Statement: Plus grand que lUnivers did not recount a literal experience from my life, but grew from the emotions Ive witnessed and felt within my own family. At its heart, the film explores love, silence, and reconciliation, revealing the tension between unspoken words and the ways distance and misunderstandings shape relationships. It seeks to make the audience feel the complex bond between mother and daughter: love that exists yet struggles to be expressed, alongside loneliness, resentment, and longing. I drew inspiration from personal experiences and observations, transforming these emotions into a story that resonates beyond any single life. The actors brought the characters to life with honesty and nuance, making the emotions tangible and the story compelling. Visually, I aimed for realism: natural lighting, simple compositions, and lived-in, imperfect environments immerse the viewer in the intimate, messy, and emotionally charged world of the film.
